Long Track speed skating on a 400m surface is by far the best way for speed skaters to develop strong straight-away technique and build skating specific endurance.  So, skating short track at Saint Margaret’s Centre and long track at the Emera Oval will make for a winning combination!

The Emera Oval is run by the Halifax Regional Municipality. The website has up-to-date information on schedule changes and weather related closures here, please check before going to the oval.

Equipment requirements for long track skaters are identical to short track requirements.  Helmet use for skaters 15 years old and older is optional but strongly encouraged.  Neck warmers, warmer gloves, layered clothing, windproof jackets and balaclavas / headbands for under skaters’ helmet are optional but quite essential.
