Hello and Happy New Year HRSSC Families!!
I hope this finds everyone is good spirits on this wintry Sunday and ready to get back to a great winter season of speed skating ❄️
There will be a few emails over the next week to share details with respect to our Short Track and Long Track practices at St. Margaret’s Centre and at the Halifax Oval, along with additional registration information and our Covid pre-screening protocols.
This email will provide an overview of our Winter Season which starts this Tuesday 5 January. Our Short Track times at SMC remain the same, and we are also excited to offer a Long Track program at the Oval throughout the week for all of groups. The Halifax Oval offers a unique opportunity to skate on a 400m long track outdoor ice surface. A wonderful spot to practice a wonderful sport 🙂
Our coaches are excited to offer a great training program in both speed skating disciplines and are looking forward to getting back out on the ice together!!

A special note for this week’s practice at St.Margaret’s Centre:
- In accordance with current public health guidelines, SMC has a “No Spectator” policy until further notice
- A parent/guardian can accompany a skater to their dressing room but must leave the facility once they are ready to get on the ice
- We have permission to have our parent/guardian volunteers assist with our safety pads – THANK YOU for helping out with the safety pads!!!
- We will continue to follow the same mask on policy until ready to leave the dressing room
