December 16th update

Just a few friendly notes and reminders…

Short Track:A/ Practices will be at the usual time and place this week.
B/ As per tradition, (and our skaters love it and look forward to it!) we will set up a table of treats for the skaters following their practice on Tuesday night, December 17th. We’ll have some treats for the early skaters and also have some for the older groups when they come off the ice.
We can’t do this without the support of all of the parents. We ask that you please bring a small selection of treats (cookies, squares, fruit – anything you think the kids will enjoy) so we can share with all. You don’t need to bring a large amount…a little bit from everyone is easily shared with all!
Please text/call Christine Pothier at 902-222-4716 if you have any questions or email her at cpothier222@hotmail.com.
C/ For those that are registered for Dryland training at the Canada Games Center, training continues Saturday Dec 21 from 1:00 to 2:00.
Other scheduled dates thus far are

  • December 21
  • January 4, 11, 18
  • February 1, 8, 22

HRSSC is hosting a “You Can Do That Here” Open House to promote our club and the sport of speed skating.   Sunday 29 December 2019  1:45pm – 3:15pm at the BMO Centre, Hammonds Plains.    Keep an eye out for more details and a poster to distribute to local spots and via your social media networks.   We would love to demonstrate our sport and club with our skaters in their gear doing some demos and drills with visitors during this free skate open skate.   There will also be some opportunities to “blend in” with the Public Skate times in the week leading up to the Open House to set up our information table.  Dates and times to follow soon.

LONG TRACK
Our Long Track season is coming together and the crew at the Oval is working hard to kick off the season..   The rain and the milder temperatures have delayed the opening of the Emera Oval but they are hopeful to have it open by Thursday December 19.
Your HRSSC membership includes coached sessions on the Oval on Wednesdays and Fridays 4-6pm, and Saturday mornings 9-10am, along with Sunday Morning races and full weekend competitions.   Full details coming soon via email and on our webpage.
The Atlantic Long Track Camp is on for December 27-29 and registration is ongoing until December 20.  Details about the camp and registration can be found at https://www.landonedgeskating.ca/longtrackcamp.
